Fruits of Hope Academy - Finished Classrooms!
The sound of laughter fills the Fruits of Hope school playground in Kigali Rwanda. A group of earnest boys chase a soccer ball made of banana leaves around the playground whilst other children walk in small groups; chatting, laughing and enjoying the mild weather.
What started in 2007 as one classroom for preschoolers is now a thriving school for preschoolers up to Year 5 students. This has been made possible by the building of new classrooms each year. The most recent cause of celebration is the completion of the Year 5 classrooms.

The finished classrooms
Before these new classrooms were built, parents were deliberately repeating their Year 4 children so that the students didn’t need to go to another school.
Fruits of HOPE school is a leading example of quality education for students in Rwanda.
One reason is the school policy to limit class sizes to around 30 students. Whilst this may seem normal in an Australian classroom, in Rwanda class sizes in government schools currently average around 70 students with many schools also "double- shifting" - teaching one group of 70 in the mornings and another group of 70 enrolled in each class in the afternoons.
Contributions by HOPE: Global monthly partners and supporters have allowed Fruits of HOPE school to continue to build new classrooms. This is directly contributing to the provision of a quality education for these students. There are more opportunities in a class of 30 to ask questions and receive individualized attention than in a class of 70!
Fred Buyinza, Project Manager of Fruits of HOPE school, recently sent word to all the supporters in Australia:
“Thank to all who prayed and financially supported the work, may the good Lord increase you. Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Your prayers and money invested in Fruits of Hope Academy makes a great impact on the lives on many and Rwanda as whole.”
