HOPE: RWANDA HOSTS VISITING GOVERNMENT DELEGATION

Press Release: 30th March 2010

The Australian not‐for–profit organization HOPE: Rwanda was invited to host a visiting Rwandan government delegation at their Baulkham Hills offices during the delegation’s visit to Australia this month.

The delegation, led by the His Excellency Dr Vincent Biruta, President of the Rwandan Senate, was here to view Australian parliamentary procedure.

HOPE: Rwanda has been sending Australian doctors, teachers, businessmen, builders and even football players as volunteers to Rwanda since 2006 to support as the nation rebuilds after the genocide of 1994, in which almost one million Rwandans were killed.

Local Parramatta NRL players Nathan Hindmarsh and Justin Poore were amongst a group of NRL players who went to Rwanda in 2008 and again in 2009 at the end of the football season to help build houses for widows in Rwanda.

As a nice conclusion to the Rwandan government delegation visit, HOPE: Rwanda took the delegation to the opening Parramatta match for the 2010 season. Whilst Parramatta was narrowly defeated, the Rwandan delegation enjoyed every minute of the experience of attending their first game of rugby league.
